The theme for our Chicory 1% for Social Justice initiative in 2025 is social justice media. One of the three groups we are partnering with this year is Just Vision, which is filling a media gap on Israel-Palestine through independent storytelling and strategic audience engagement.
We are excited to have Just Vision’s Executive Director, Suhad Babaa, join our CEO Maggie Kulyk for a conversation about Just Vision’s important work.
In addition to her role at Just Vision, Suhad is the co-publisher of the Hebrew-language news site, Local Call, co-founder and publisher of the newly established Palestine Reporting Lab, producer of the award-winning documentary film, Boycott (SXSW 2022), and executive producer of the acclaimed feature-length, Naila and the Uprising (IDFA 2017). Additionally, Suhad helped lead the impact campaigns for Just Vision’s critically acclaimed film, Budrus (2009), which was recognized with the Doc Society Social Impact Award in 2012, as well as the Peabody award-winning documentary, My Neighbourhood (2012).
Suhad and her team have been behind several groundbreaking investigations over the last year including on the Israeli military’s policy and use of artificial intelligence in Gaza, the government’s surveillance of the ICC, and military-backed efforts that support Israeli settler violence in the West Bank. Her team’s work has been featured in outlets including The New York Times, CNN, Yedioth Ahronoth, PBS, BBC, Channel 2 News (Israel), Ma’an News, Al Quds, Haaretz, The Forward, and beyond.
